Basic Applesauce

Ingredients

  • 3 lb apples
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

Preparation

Peel, core and slice apples. In saucepan, combine apples, water, and cinnamon (if desired); bring to boil. Cover, reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 20 minutes or until tender. (Or in microwaveable dish, microwave, uncovered, at High for 12 minutes, stirring twice; let stand for 5 minutes.)

Pur?in food processor or push through food mill (or mash with potato masher for a chunkier version). If desired, sweeten with up to 2 tbsp (25 mL) granulated sugar while still warm.

Use sweet to sweet-tart apples that break down easily.
