Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour 4 cups all-purpose flour

Preparation

Grease and flour 13- x 9-inch (3.5 L) metal cake pan; line bottom with parchment paper. Grease and flour 4-cup (1 L) ovenproof metal mixing bowl; place circle of parchment paper on bottom. Set aside.

In large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda and sa< whisk in coffee, oil and vanilla. Stir in vinegar. Pour 2½ cups (625 mL) into prepared bowl; pour remainder into prepared pan, smoothing tops.

Bake in 350°F (180°C) oven until cake tester inserted in centre comes out clean, about 35 minutes for rectangle cake and 45 minutes for dome cake. Let cool in pans for 10 minutes. Invert onto racks and remove pan, bowl and paper; let cool completely.
