Serve this little sweet with coffee for a perfect finish.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup liquid honey
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 Pinch salt
  • 1-1/2 cups chopped dates
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 oz semisweet chocolate, chopped

Preparation

In saucepan, bring milk, sugar, honey, cinnamon and salt to boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 to 18 minutes or until thickened and reduced by one-third. Remove from heat. Stir in dates, pecans, butter and vanilla. Spoon batter into foil-lined 8-inch (2 L) square cake pan, pressing evenly.

In bowl over saucepan of hot (not boiling) water, melt chocolate, stirring occasionally; drizzle over date mixture. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until chilled. Remove from pan. Cut into squares.
