These Brazilian candy treats are said to be named for a brigadier general. They look like truffles but are made with sweetened condensed milk, a South American pantry staple.
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp cocoa powder , sifted3 tbsp cocoa powder, sifted
- 1 can (300 mL) sweetened condensed milk 1 can (300 mL) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup chocolate sprinkles 1/2 cup chocolate sprinkles
Preparation
In small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Using heatproof spatula, stir in milk mixture; cook, stirring constantly and scraping bottom of the pan to prevent scorching, until thickened, glossy and mixture holds wide trail after spatula is pulled through centre, 12 to 14 minutes. Immediately scrape into buttered shallow dish. Let cool enough to handle, about 20 minutes.
With well-buttered hands, roll by 1 tsp into balls. Immediately roll each in chocolate sprinkles. (Make-ahead: Store between waxed paper in airtight container for up to 24 hours.) Nestle into paper candy cup, if desired.
