Campfire Crumble
A little smoky flavour adds authenticity to a tasty dessert cooked over the fire or a camp-stove burner. Use any dried fruit you like (small fruit will not need to be chopped) or substitute pears for apples. Leftovers are terrific for breakfast.

2 tbsp (25 mL) granulated sugar
1 tbsp (15 mL) butter
6 tart apples, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup (125 mL) chopped dried mixed fruit
1/2 cup (125 mL) apple or orange juice
1/2 tsp (2 mL) cinnamon
2 cups (500 mL) granola or crumbled oatmeal cookies
1/4 cup (50 mL) chopped pecans
Preparation:
In skillet, heat sugar and butter until melted and bubbling. Add apples, dried fruit, apple juice and cinnamon; cover with foil and simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes or until apples are translucent and liquid is syrupy. Remove foil; sprinkle with granola and pecans.
