Can you mix lard and shortening together to make pie crust?

We no longer use shortening in the Canadian Living Test Kitchen because of the trans fats. (See our article, What about those trans fats? to find out why you should avoid them). We recommend using half lard and half butter or all butter. The butter gives it flavour and the lard makes it easier to handle and roll out.
