What could I serve as a brunch menu to a guest that is gluten and lactose intolerant? I am looking for ideas for Christmas morning. Love your magazine and website for recipes.

Thank you for your query regarding foods to serve for people with intolerances. You can contact the Allergy Asthma and Immunology Society of Ontario (416-633-2215) for more specific information regarding these intolerances. My suggestion would be to not try to create foods like ones they cannot have but offer foods they can have. For example if they have a gluten intolerance, have toast/bread/muffins for the rest of the guests but as a main course offer omelettes, fritattas, etc. and lots of fresh fruit and relishes. For the lactose intolerance, stay away from cheese, milk, cream, yogurt, etc. You may want to go to your local library or bookstore and look at some of the cookbooks available. Two that we recommend are 125 Gluten-Free Recipes by Donna Washburn and Heather Butt, and The Everyday Dairy-Free Cookbook by Miller Rogers and Emily White. I hope this information will be helpful to you. Thank you for thinking of Canadian Living Magazine. Heather Howe, Test Kitchen Manager
