What is a honey pomelo (citrus fruit)? How do you eat it?
photo of Canadian Living Test Kitchen Staff
A pomelo is the largest citrus fruit and believed to be the ancestor of the grapefruit. The pomelo has a thick skin. The flesh can be light yellow to coral pink and taste much like a grapefruit. Recently there has been a greater supply of pomelos (also spelled pommelo and pummelo) marketed, with a variety called oro blanco developed in 1958. With this sort of citrus, always choose one that feels heavy and store in refrigerator for up to a week or two. Use the flesh as you would grapefruit. Peel or halve and section.
