When I mix cookies, cakes or muffins, it says to mix the salt, cinnamon, baking powder, etc., with the flour before mixing with the creamed butter mixture. Is it okay to mix those items into the creamed mixture and then just add the flour on its own? I think they would mix better if added to the creamed mixture.

The reason all of the dry ingredients are mixed before adding to the creamed mixture is to ensure that they are evenly distributed. The flour is a better vehicle to distribute things like salt, baking powder, etc., than the creamed mixture.
