This applesauce has more texture and flavour and is a bit less sweet than the commercial variety. For a twist, try one of the deliciously fruity variations that follow the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 6 Northern Spy apples or golden delicious apples, 2-1/2 lb (1.25 kg)
  • 1/3 cup apple juice
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp liquid honey
  • 1 pinch cinnamon

Preparation

Peel, core and cube apples. In large saucepan, bring apples, apple juice, lemon juice, honey and cinnamon to boil; reduce heat to low and simmer until very tender, about 30 minutes. With potato masher, mash until starting to break up but still chunky.
