Double-Tomato Sauce Mix
Dried tomatoes (not oil-packed) make a tomato sauce mix with a unique flavour that pasta lovers will appreciate. Give the recipe for Double-Tomato Sauce along with the mix.
Servings: 1 cup (250 mL)
Ingredients:

1 cup (250 mL) dried tomatoes (2 oz/50 g)
2 tbsp (25 mL) dried parsley
1 tbsp (15 mL) dried basil
2 tsp (10 mL) dried marjoram
1/2 tsp (2 mL) hot pepper flakes
Preparation:
With scissors, sliver tomatoes; combine in airtight container with parsley, basil, marjoram and pepper flakes.

To make the sauce:
In 2 tbsp (25 mL) olive oil, cook 1 chopped onion and two minced garlic cloves over medium heat until softened, about 3 minutes. Add 1/2 cup (125 mL) Mix and 1 can (19 oz/540 mL) tomatoes, breaking up tomatoes; simmer for 15 minutes or until thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Makes 3 cups (750 mL), enough for 4 servings.
