A super delicious way to upgrade your lemonade

Lemonade is the quintessential summer drink, but believe it or not, there's a way to make it even better: mix it with homemade iced tea for a refreshing, not too sweet twist on the classic. We've used green tea for this recipe, but make it your own by using earl grey or chai instead.

Green Tea Lemonade

  • 3 green tea bags
  • 8 lemons
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 5 cups boiling water
  • 2 cups ice cubes
  • 10 lemon slices

In heatproof bowl, steep green tea in 2 cups of boiling water for 4 minutes. Discard tea bags. Let cool.

Scrub lemons; rinse and dry. In large heatproof bowl and working with 1 lemon at a time, rub lemon vigorously with about one-third of the sugar. Halve and squeeze lemons to make about 1 ½ cups (375ml) juice; pour juice onto sugar.

Add remaining sugar and squeezed lemon shells. Cover with boiling water, stirring to dissolve; let cool. Strain through cheesecloth-lined sieve, pressing out liquid. Let syrup cool. (Make-ahead: Refrigerate in airtight container for up to 1 week.) In serving pitcher, combine syrup with 2 cups of green tea; stir in ice cubes. Garnish with lemon.
