Loukoumades, Greece

Bite-sized, sweet, deep-fried dough-balls are popular all over the world, known as loukoumades. Visit a Greek bakery to experience these perfect little mouthfuls. They should be crisp-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside, drenched in honey syrup and sprinkled with cinnamon. There are variations on this bite-sized theme all over the world from Turkey with their lokma, the Italians have zeppole, in the Arab world luqmat al-qadi, in Hebrew zvingous, a Chanukah specialty, and in India, cardamom-scented Gulab Jamun.
