This is pluma moos, a favourite Mennonite dried fruit dish.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup pitted prunes
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup sliced dried apples
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup sliced dried apricots
  • 1/4 cup sliced dried peaches
  • 1 slice lemon
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • Milk or cream

Preparation

In saucepan, combine 3-1/2 cups (875 mL) of the water, prunes, raisins, apples, sugar, apricots, peaches, lemon and cinnamon. Bring to boil; cover and reduce heat to low, simmering for 10 to 15 minutes or until fruit is tender but still intact.

Blend cornstarch into remaining water; stir into fruit mixture, increase heat to medium and simmer for about 5 minutes longer or until liquid thickens and clears. Taste and adjust flavours. Remove lemon slice. Serve hot or chilled with milk or cream (if using). (Soup can be stored, covered, in refrigerator for up to 3 days.)
