This kid-friendly combination is a must for any youngster's party.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup butter, softened
  • 1-1/2 tsp grainy mustard or Dijon mustard, (optional)
  • 8 thin slices white bread
  • 4 thin slices whole wheat bread
  • 4 slices Black Forest ham
  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese

Preparation

In small bowl, mix butter with mustard if using. Spread over 1 side of each white bread slice and both sides of whole wheat slices.

Place ham slice on half of the white slices; top with whole wheat slices. Top with Cheddar slices and remaining white bread. (Make-ahead: Place on rimmed baking sheet and cover with damp tea towel; cover tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 24 hours.)

Trim off crusts. Cut each sandwich into 3 fingers or 4 triangles.

Smoked Turkey and Swiss Cheese Sandwiches: Use smoked turkey instead of ham and Swiss cheese instead of Cheddar.
