Help-Yourself Apple Cinnamon Porridge

Assemble everything the night before and have the early-riser in the house turn it on. Or set a timer to start cooking two hours before you get up.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup steel-cut Irish oatmeal
  • 1 cup diced dried apples or dried pears
  • 1/3 cup raisins
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Preparation

In slow cooker, combine oatmeal, apples, raisins, sugar, cinnamon and 4 cups (1 L) water. Cover and cook on low for 2 hours or until thickened and oatmeal is tender, about 2 hours.
