Take a look at a larger image of the finished craft.

You need:
• 2 watertight, chunky square metal, glass or ceramic containers
• 4 hydrangea flower stems, 2 magnolia stems (each with several leaves), 2 stems of white lilies (each with 2 or 3 flowers), 2 japonica leaves, handful of boxwood sprigs, 4 medium-size pinecones (each wired to floral pick) and 2 long, curving stems such as pussy willow
• 4 tall white taper candles
• Floral foam, soaked in water
• Serrated knife
• Bamboo skewers (optional)

To make:
1. With knife, trim block of foam to snugly fit each container with top of foam about 13 mm (1/2 in) above rim; push into containers. Pare bottom end of each candle into sharp point.

2. Working clockwise around each container: At 1 corner, firmly push 2 candles (about 2.5 cm/1 in apart) straight down through foam to bottom of container; if desired, brace in place with halved skewers pushed into foam. At next corner, push in japonica stem so leaf overhangs rim. At next corner, push in 2 hydrangea stems. At final corner, push in magnolia stem. Insert 2 pinecone picks where desired, then push in cut ends of boxwood sprigs to fill any spaces.

3. Position arrangements on table; with tips at opposite ends, drape long stems between arrangements, tucking cut ends into flowers and foliage (anchor with halved skewers, if desired).

Designer's tips:
• For even burning, trim candlewicks to 6 mm (1/4 in) before lighting.
• Bling it up, if desired, by hanging icicles and tiny tree ornaments on the connecting stems.

CAUTION: Never leave burning candles unattended.
