The fruity orange flavour of this delicious compote matches beautifully with crisp Walnut Oatcakes. This compote is wonderful with either white or dark figs. Trim off their hard tops before using.

Ingredients

  • 15 dried figs, trimmed and chopped
  • 1-1/2 cups orange juice
  • 1/3 cup liquid honey

Preparation

In small saucepan, bring figs, orange juice and honey to boil; cover and simmer over low heat, stirring often, until tender, about 30 minutes.

Uncover and simmer until liquid is syrupy, about 8 minutes. (Make-ahead: Let cool to room temperature; refrigerate in airtight container for up to 2 weeks.)
