3 Father's Day feasts

Celebrate dad with one of our delicious menus, PLUS we offer up a second trio of warm-weather feast ideas.

By The Canadian Living Test Kitchen

This year treat dad to a marvellous meal he won't soon forget. Tempt his tastebuds with any one of our featured Father's Day menus below. Whether you want to host a casual family get-together in the backyard or something more formal around the dinner table; you're sure to find a menu that will suit your occasion. Whatever you do, just remember to crown dad as king for the day and to seat him at the head of the table.

Dinner for Dad
Instead of an ordinary steak for Father's Day, why not try something new: a moist and tasty barbecued turkey? It's easy to brine the turkey the day before and prepare all of the other dishes ahead so you can spend the day with Dad. A round of golf? Help in the garden? Tennis anyone?

For the love of Dad
Television's Food Network Canada launches chef Michael Smith into viewers' kitchens, but it was his father, Ralph, who launched him into his career. "Long before chefs were cool my father took us to restaurants to tour the kitchens. Today my dad is so proud – he's like the president of my fan club. I can't think of a better way to honour him than with a menu of his favourite foods."

Another dinner for Dad
Let your taste buds do some travelling with the culinary delights of Spain to inspire your Father's Day celebration. The simplicity of cooking will surprise and delight the whole family as well as introduce Sapin's summery flavours: its fragrant olive oils, smoky paprika (pimenton), luscious almonds and richly flavoured vinegars. Many food stores carry Spanish items, but, of course, our recipes work with ingredients from any fine grocery store.

If the above don't suit your tastes, here's another trio of warm-weather feasts you can use to celebrate Dad.

Patio party
All winter we look forward to warm weather when we can finally entertain on our patios and decks. Here is a stylish and attractive menu for eight, with all make-ahead dishes, except for the last-minute grilling of the fish. It a perfect way for you to sit back, relax and fully enjoy your company and the start of long, warm summer evenings.

Midsummer's eve picnic
Whether you choose to celebrate the summer solstice with a little dancing and debauchery, like our pagan ancestors, or simply with a quiet and intimate
get-together with some good friends and great food, you're sure to enjoy this fresh, seasonal picnic.

Forza Italia!
Go Italian with our splendido dinner for six. It's classic from start to finish, featuring antipasto, pasta with clams and a beautiful gelato dessert. Family and friends will not be disappointed with this flavourful feast.
