Leftover safety:
• Refrigerate or freeze leftovers within 2 hours of serving.
• Slice large cuts of meat and store in serving-size packets.
• Cover and refrigerate cooked rice3 within 1 hour of cooking; keep leftover rice for no longer than 24 hours.
• Store large quantities of thick food, such as stew or chili, in several shallow uncovered containers for quicker cooling in the refrigerator.
• Label and date wrapped leftovers to eat within 3 days.
• Check the refrigerator once a week and discard old leftovers.
