Romantic dinner: Just the two of us
No nee to worry about freezer-burned meat or fuzzy forgotten yogurt at the back of the refrigerator when you have recipes that make just enough for two. With our tips, you'll save time and dollars plus eliminate unwanted leftovers.
Shopping for two
• Meat and fish: Say goodbye to family-pack meat trays. Attendants at the butcher and seafood counters can portion one or more cuts to suit your needs.
• Produce: Keep amounts consistent with appetites. Buy loose mixed salad (instead of prepackaged) and bulk vegetables as you need them.
• Dairy: Look for half pounds of butter and single servings of yogurt and cottage cheese. The deli counter will slice cheese to order.
• Bulk food: Whether it's a single serving of pasta or a spoonful of dried herbs and spices, the bulk food store is a great place to buy exactly what you need.
• Freezer section: Resealable bags of individually quick-frozen (IQF) fruit and vegetables means you can take out only enough for one meal.
• More than you need: Place portions of tomato sauce, chicken or beef stock and tomato paste in resealable plastic containers. Label and freeze for up to 1 month.
