If you can't find applewood-smoked Cheddar cheese, old Cheddar is just as good. Serve with toppings to dress up the burgers.

Ingredients

Preparation

Combine turkey, rolled oats, egg, green onions, garlic, mustard, salt and pepper; divide into 10 scant 1/4 cup portions, flattening each.

Slice cheese into 10 thin 3/4-inch (2 cm) squares. Place square in centre of each burger; fold meat over to seal in cheese. Form into 2-1/2-inch (6 cm) round patties.

In large nonstick skillet, heat oil over medium heat; cook patties until digital rapid-read thermometer inserted sideways into centre reads 165ºF (74ºC), 5 minutes per side.

Meanwhile, on baking sheet, toast buns in 450ºF (230ºC) oven until golden, 3 minutes. Fill with patties.
