Noël Fruit Bars
These sweet, rich, dense bars taste somewhat like Christmas cake with icing.

2 eggs
1 cup (250 mL) icing sugar
1/4 cup (50 mL) butter, melted
3/4 cup (175 mL) all-purpose flour
1-1/2 tsp (7 mL) baking powder
1/2 tsp (2 mL) salt
1 cup (250 mL) chopped walnuts
1 cup (250 mL) chopped dates
3/4 cup (175 mL) mixed candied fruit
Icing:
1/4 cup (50 mL) butter, softened
1 cup (250 mL) icing sugar, sifted
Preparation:
In large bowl and using electric mixer, beat eggs with icing sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in melted butter.
Whisk together flour, baking powder and sa< stir into egg mixture. Stir in nuts, dates and candied fruit. Spread in greased 8-inch (2 L) square cake pan.
Bake in centre of 325°F (160°C) oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until top is golden and centre is firm to the touch. Let cool in pan on rack.
Icing: In bowl, beat butter until light; gradually beat in icing sugar until fluffy. Spread over cooled bars.
