These sweet, rich, dense bars taste somewhat like Christmas cake with icing.

In large bowl and using electric mixer, beat eggs with icing sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in melted butter.

Whisk together flour, baking powder and salt ; stir into egg mixture. Stir in nuts, dates and candied fruit. Spread in greased 8-inch (2 L) square cake pan.

Bake in centre of 325°F (160°C) oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until top is golden and centre is firm to the touch. Let cool in pan on rack.

Icing: In bowl, beat butter until light; gradually beat in icing sugar until fluffy. Spread over cooled bars.
