These easy ribs have a wonderful sweet and smoky flavour. You can find black bean sauce and rice vinegar at Oriental food stores and some supermarkets. Serve with fresh corn and tomatoes.

Ingredients

  • 4 lb pork spareribs
  • 1/2 cup black bean sauce
  • 3 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp liquid honey
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp chopped gingerroot
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Pinch pepper

Preparation

Cut spareribs into serving-size pieces; place in large pot of boiling water. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for about 40 minutes or until fork-tender and no longer pink inside. Drain and place in shallow glass baking dish.

Meanwhile, whisk together black bean sauce, vinegar, honey, ketchup, sesame oil, ginger, garlic and pepper. Pour over ribs, turning to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or up to 24 hours. Let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes.

On greased grill over medium-high heat, cook ribs, covered, turning and basting once, for about 10 minutes or until crisp and glazed.
