These easy ribs have a wonderful sweet and smoky flavour. You can find black bean sauce and rice vinegar at Oriental food stores and some supermarkets. Serve with fresh corn and tomatoes.

Ingredients

  • 4 lb 4lbpork spareribs
  • 1/2 cup 1/2cupblack bean sauce
  • 3 tbsp 3tbsprice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp 2tbspliquid honey
  • 2 tbsp 2tbspketchup
  • 1 tbsp 1tbspsesame oil
  • 1 tbsp 1tbspchopped gingerroot
  • 2 2cloves garlic, minced
  • Pinch Pinchpepper

Preparation

Cut spareribs into serving-size pieces; place in large pot of boiling water. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for about 40 minutes or until fork-tender and no longer pink inside. Drain and place in shallow glass baking dish.

Meanwhile, whisk together black bean sauce, vinegar, honey, ketchup, sesame oil, ginger, garlic and pepper. Pour over ribs, turning to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or up to 24 hours. Let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes.

On greased grill over medium-high heat, cook ribs, covered, turning and basting once, for about 10 minutes or until crisp and glazed.
