Centre 1 of the cakes on large cake board for base. Using diagram as guide, cut out pieces from remaining cake.

Remove 1 cup (250 mL) of the icing to small bowl; tint light pink.

Using small amount of white icing, attach pieces A and B to base for ears. Attach piece C for topknot. Attach piece D to top of base for nose.

Spread 3/4 cup (175 mL) of the white icing over top and sides of cake to mask and seal in crumbs. Chill until firm, about 30 minutes.

Spread 2/3 cup (150 mL) of the white icing over top and sides of nose, ears and top knot. Use back of spoon to create swirls on nose.

Spread pink icing over top and sides of poodle face, using back of spoon to create swirls.

Using piping bag fitted with star tip, pipe remaining white icing into rosettes on ears and topknot. Using plain tip, pipe white icing to make eyes.

Use candies and licorice rope to make pupils, eyebrows, nose, and paw prints, if desired. Chill until firm, about 30 minutes.
