A warm bowl of soup or stew is excellent meal planning for the winter season. Soups and stews provide warm, comforting, family-pleasing sustenance - but moreover makes for easy fuss-free cooking. You can get long-simmered flavour into a short amount of cooking time by using fish, chicken, vegetables and ground beef. So get your spoon and be ready to dig in - in 30 minutes or less!

Having all of your ingredients in one pot means less work up front and less clean up afterwards. And there is no need to have to figure out what goes on the side – everything is served in one bowl! Halibut and Spinach Curry is cooked in one pan, packed with flavour, and will warm you through with it’s ginger and spices.

White Bean and Squash Soup or Beef and Cabbage Soup use nutritious winter vegetables to build delicious family pleasing fare. Soups and stews are a great way to pack in nutritious vegetables to serve to your family. All of the ingredients simmered and stewed together will make your dinner a luscious and savoury meal.

Stewed dishes also make great leftovers. Double these recipes so you have enough for lunches as well - the flavours will just get better over time! Pack leftover Chicken and Green Bean Stew into a thermos for a warm pick-me-up during next day's lunch hour.

Immersion blenders are great for thick pureed soups like Leek and Potato Soup and make clean up a breeze. To add fresh flavour to your soups or stews, hit  them with some fresh herbs or a squeeze of lemon right at the end of the cooking time – it will really enhance the flavour. Serve your warm bowls of goodness with a grainy bread or Honey Whole Wheat Scones.
