Preparation

In bowl, whisk flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt and cayenne pepper. With pastry blender, cut in shortening until crumbly. With fork, stir in soy or regular milk to form ragged dough.

On floured surface, knead dough 10 times. Pat into 1/2-inch (1 cm) thick rectangle; cut into 8 squares. Bake on parchment paper-lined baking sheet in centre of 425°F (220°C) oven until lightly browned, 20 minutes.
