This recipe makes 2 loaves.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 4 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 1 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups sifted all purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 1/2 cup applesauce canned
  • 1/2 cup raisin
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Method

Preheat oven to 350F. Grease and flour 2 regular-sized loaf pans.

Mix butter and vegetable oil, gradually adding sugar and creaming until light. Add eggs, beating well after each addition.

Sift together dry ingredients. Add to creamed mixture, alternating with apple sauce. Stir in raisins and nuts. Turn batter into prepared pans. Bake 45-55 minutes or until done.

Cool in pans for 10 minutes and then place on a rack to cool further.
