a simple breakfast, lunch or snack that will entice picky eaters to enjoy cheese to help with their nutritional needs for the day

  • 50 g Cheddar cheese
  • 50 g mozzarella cheese
  • 1 slice bread


Cut slices of cheese, cut into squares approx 2 centimeters each Alternate light and dark cheese onto bread. Broil in toaster oven (or in oven) till cheese melts This is a good basic start, if you have younger children they like to help putting the cheese in place. Many variations of this, you can use whichever cheeses you like, you can use white or brown bread. If you are making this for an older child or adult, you can use just one cheese. The idea of the checkerboard is to amuse younger children, however my older grandchildren still like the fact it is special for them when I still do the checkerboard.
