This is a variation of a snack or lunch served regularly in British pubs.

  • 2 slices whole-grain bread
  • 1/2 cup grated old Cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped red onions
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons good quality margarine (approx.)


Combine grated cheese & red onion then mix in mayonnaise. Spread this mixture on one slice of bread & top with the other one. Spread margarine on each side of the sandwich, then place on pre-heated frying pan (at medium heat). Fry until golden brown then flip & fry the other side. Cheese should be melted & gooey. Remove from pan & enjoy with carrot sticks & cherry tomatoes.

Red Onion Cheddar Grilled Cheese Sandwich
