It takes just minutes to make these fruit-and-nut balls when you use a food processor.

  • 1 cup blanched almond
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped candied cherry
  • 1/2 cup chopped candied orange peel
  • 1/4 lb fig
  • 1/4 lb dried apricot
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (approx)
  • 3/4 cups granulated sugar (approx)


Spread almonds in single layer on baking sheet and toast in 350°F (180°C) oven until lightly browned, about 7 to 10 minutes. Let cool and chop medium-fine, about the size of currants. Place nuts and candied fruit in large bowl.

Remove tough tips from figs and discard. Grind figs and apricots using medium blade of meat grinder, or chop figs first, then apricots, in food processor; add to candied fruit and nut mixture. Add honey and lemon juice and mix well. Add more juice to bind the ingredients, if necessary.

Divide mixture into 6 parts, then each part into 8 equal pieces. Wetting palms of hands if necessary, shape into balls. Spread sugar on plate. Roll balls in sugar and let stand in single layer, uncovered, at room temperature until outside has hardened slightly. Store in airtight container(s).
