If you are a fan of sweet relish and you grow your own tomatoes, you must try this easy version of an East Coast favourite. Serve warm or chilled with crackers, or alongside any grilled meat.

Method

In saucepan, heat oil over medium heat; cook onion, mustard seeds, celery seeds,dry mustard and turmeric, stirring, until onion is softened, about 5 minutes. Add tomatoes, yellow pepper, water, sugar, vinegar, salt and pepper; cook, stirring occasionally, until thickened and pepper is tender, about 15 minutes. Let cool.

Make-ahead: Refrigerate in airtight container for up to 3 weeks or freeze for up to 2 months.
