Tomato Pear Ketchup

Tested Till Perfect

Savoury-sweet with a little kick of heat, this chunky ketchup makes an ideal mate for tourti? – vegetarian or otherwise.

Servings: 1-1/2 cups (375 mL)

Preparation:

In saucepan, combine tomato, pear, chili pepper, garlic, raisins, vinegar, brown sugar, tomato paste, cinnamon, salt, pepper and 1/3 cup (75 mL) water; bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 45 minutes.

Discard cinnamon stick and chili pepper; simmer, uncovered, until thickened, about 20 minutes. (Make-ahead: Let cool. Refrigerate in airtight container for up to 5 days.)
