Get the party started with a refreshing summer drink to enjoy with either vodka or sparkling soda, as in the variations.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 5 cups cubed and seeded watermelon
  • 3/4 cup lemon juice

Preparation

In heatproof measuring cup, whisk 1 cup (250 mL) boiling water with sugar until dissolved. Set aside.

In blender, blend watermelon with lemon juice until smooth. Strain into glass pitcher, pressing mixture; stir in sugar syrup. (Make-ahead: Cover and refrigerate for up to 1 week.)

Variations
Hard Watermelon Lemonade: Fill highball glass with ice. Add 1/2 cup (125 mL) Watermelon Lemonade and 1 oz (25 mL) vodka; stir just to combine. Makes 1 serving.

Sparkling Watermelon Lemonade: Fill highball glass with ice. Add 3/4 cup (175 mL) Watermelon Lemonade. Top with 1/2 oz (15 mL) soda water; stir just to combine. Makes 1 serving.
