Dear CL bookworms,

I have great news for you. We will be running a monthly book giveaway in our forums. Each month we'll be giving away five mystery novels and five fiction novels - 10 books total every month!

All you have to do is be one of the first 10 people to respond correctly to our monthly Canadian literature trivia question. The first 10 correct responses will win a free new book!

This month's contest starts ... NOW! October's mystery title is When Will There Be Good News, by Kate Atkinson and the fiction title is Broken, by Daniel Clay. Click on the title to get more info on the books.

Now, for the moment we've all been waiting for, here's this month's trivia question.

Margaret Atwood is one of Canada's most respected Canadian contemporary authors. Which of her novels is based on a true story of a Canadian murder that took place in the early 1800s?

So, I just realized that I can't have you respond to the thread. That way everyone can just copy and paste the last person's response, and that's just too easy!! Please e-mail me at forums@canadianliving.com. You must send me your response there, or your answer won't be counted.

Hi All,

Once again, the October book giveaway is now closed.

I've sent a private e-mail to the 10 winners of this month's book contest. Thanks to all those who participated.

The correct answer to my Canadian literature question is Alias Grace. Margaret Atwood's Alias Grace is based on a real-life crime that took place in Upper Canada in the early 1800s. Grace Marks was accused and tried for the murder of her employer and his mistress.

Alias Grace won the 1996 Giller Prize.

Yea!!!! I won! I sent my email out on Thursday and because I hadn't heard back by Friday, I figured I was too late. What a nice surprise to get an email this morning saying I won! Thank you Daniela and Can. Living!
