Custard

A blend of milk and eggs, baked or boiled. Although probably derived from a Middle English word, the term resembles croustade, the French word for "pie." Custard mixtures have been used as pie fillings for centuries. One of the cheesecake recipes described by Athenaeus in the early 3rd century sounds amazingly like a custard pie.
