Lemongrass

Also sereh. A tall, tropical grass, Cymbopogon citratus, whose stalk and leaves are used in Thai and Vietnamese cuisine. In India, it's used in blends of curry powder. Lemongrass contains citral, an essential oil used in perfumes and the substance found in the outer rinds of lemons. It is now grown extensively in Florida and California, brought there by Vietnamese immigrants. It can be purchased fresh or dried and is believed to relieve flatulence.
