Malted Milk Powder

A dry, powdered mixture of barley malt, milk, salt and wheat, used as a sweetener in baked goods and also in the "malteds" or "malted milkshakes" invented and served in North American soda shops of the 1920s. Commercial preparations, such as Horlicks and Ovaltine (which also contains cocoa powder), have long been sold as nutrition boosters (when combined with milk) for kids and are also recommended for people with appetite-suppressing illnesses. See also malted milk.
