Pimiento

Also pimento. 1. a heart-shaped, sweet red bell pepper, often sliced as a garnish or stuffed into pitted green olives. Most of the crop is grown for the production of paprika, but pimiento is also used as an ingredient in salads, chili, stews, or roasted on its own, or cored, stuffed and cooked. It is available bottled, canned or fresh. It is rated at 500 Scoville units or less. 2. the common name of the Pimenta dioica tree from which allspice berries are harvested.
