Protein

One of three essential sources of energy (along with carbohydrates and fats) required by the body; protein also assists in building and repairing bones and tissues. The general rule of thumb is that an adult should consume one gram of protein for every kilogram of body weight each day. With an amino-acid composition that classifies them as "complete proteins", dairy foods, eggs, fish, meat and poultry are the best dietary sources of protein; fruit, grains, nuts and vegetables are just down the list.
