Be breast aware

By Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation

Five ways to become more breast aware...
1. Know how your breasts normally look and feel. That way, if there are any significant changes, you'll be more likely to notice them early.

2. Know what changes to check for in the breast area - including above and below each breast and the armpit: Click here for more information

3. Look and feel for changes. There is more than one way to check your breasts. There is no right or wrong way, and no need to follow a particular routine. Choose a way that is comfortable for you.

4. Report any changes to a doctor. Most breast changes will not be cancer but should be discussed with a doctor.

5. Go for clinical breast exams or mammograms when age or risk appropriate or advised by a doctor. Women at the appropriate age can get a free mammogram through their regional breast screening program. Screening guidelines vary slightly by province, but all programs include women ages 50-69.
