Identify your exercise personality
Finding an exercise activity that suits your personality and lifestyle will help you stick with it, says Nathalie Lambert, Olympic medalist and physical activity specialist.
Lambert offers the following exercise personality tips:
• A high-energy person should try inline skating or an aerobic dance class to keep up with their busy mind and body
• Yoga or Pilates suits someone with a quieter personality, but don't be fooled by the quiet. Many yoga and Pilates programs are just as intense and demanding as aerobics classes, but without the noise.
• Moms with kids should try signing up for a parent-child class, such as swimming, yoga, or hip-hop dancing.
“And if you have a tight budget, activity can be as simple as walking to a nearby park and playing soccer or tag with your kids,” adds Lambert.
The best exercise program of all: Family time
Bond with the family through exercise! Lambert recommends families take an hour or two every weekend to do fun group activities that everyone enjoys, such as swimming and biking. “Studies show that when parents are active, their children are six times more likely to be active,” she says.
