When a person is sick with a cold, should they put their daily exercises or workout on hold until their health improves? Should we be conserving our energy until our health improves or is this an old wives' tale?
Regarding exercise and illness, an easy way to check is called the 'above the neck, below the neck rule'. If your symptoms appear above the neck (runny nose, sneezing, sore throat) continue your exercise, but perhaps at a lower intensity. If your symptoms are below the neck (chest congestion, intense coughing, vomiting, fever), then many health organizations recommend resting until the symptoms subside. My mom often says "If it doesn't kill ya, it'll cure ya!" but I'm more for following modern science! Good luck. Michelle Cederberg www.liveoutloud.ca
