How can I help my 22-year-old daughter lose weight? I have asked her to join a gym and I buy healthy food but she still eats late at night and if I don't have food at home she will drive to McDonald's. Any suggestions?

It's very difficult to stand by and watch people that we love make poor choices about food and nutrition. It's wonderful that you care about your daughter's health. The unfortunate thing is that she is an adult and despite your best efforts she will make her own decisions about food and exercise. I suggest you continue to provide her with healthy options and do so with support and patience rather than nagging. Does she have friends who make healthier choices? You might ask them to buddy up with her and go to the gym. If fast food is your daughter's vice, you might look up healthy, flavourful fast food options and educate your daughter on the idea that healthy food can taste great. For more help, talk to a nutritionist in your area. Good luck! Michelle Cederberg www.liveoutloud.ca
