Ask Your Family Doctor... about Children's Health: Active Children

Help your child get enough exercise by making it a family activity.

By The College of Family Physicians of Canada

Q: How can I help my kids to be more active?

More than half of Canada's kids don't get enough exercise. Aim to increase the amount of physical activity your kids do by 30 minutes a day, whether it's in-line skating, swimming, walking, or playing games. Adding just five minutes a day can add up over time. Your goal is 90 minutes of activity a day.

At the same time, reduce the amount of time your child spends indoors watching TV or on the computer by 30 minutes a day.

Make activity a family project. Play sports together, or go for bike rides or walks. Setting goals and praising your children can help all of you become more active and - healthier, too.
