Eat More Weigh Less
By Dean Ornish
Ornish advocates a lifestyle change, not just a diet. The diet that Dr. Ornish recommends is a low-fat, plant-based diet that includes lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans and soy products. It incorporates moderate amounts of egg whites and non-fat dairy products.
The foods on this diet are rich in vitamins, minerals, fibre and phytochemicals that are being shown to be protective against heart disease and other illnesses. It is essentially very low in fat and high in carbohydrates.
The downside is that it is so low in fat that many people have difficulty following it and end up following a modified version. It can be a valuable tool for people with heart disease and/or people trying to lower ardiovascular risk and I recommend it.
