Well Coated

By Yvla Van Buuren

Polar fleece coats for those who use wheelchairs are designed to be warm and convenient.

A small company in Whitby, Ont., is making specially designed polar fleece coats for those who are mobility impaired and use wheelchairs. Denise Julian, co-owner of Kutaways, explains that fabric is literally “cut away,” so coats have half-backs; the design makes them easy to put on and comfortable to wear for those in wheelchairs since the material doesn't bunch up at the back. Sleeves are optional, and coats have high collars with a 12-inch zippered opening in front and conveniently attached hats and mitts. Available in a wide range of solid colours, as well as in single and double Yukon polar fleece weights and breathable, waterproof fabrics, the coats come in children's and adult's sizes and range from about $180 to $230. Visit www.kutaways.com for ordering information.
