Deal Dad a winning hand

Sometimes the best gifts aren’t the ones you order from a website. In fact, there's nothing that says "I love you" more than a nice, handmade gift.

On Father's Day, honour Dad in spades: Present him with a collection of his favourite faces. This quick collage is a great gift for kids to make and for dads to receive. You can even make it a group effort. Get your siblings, Mom and other family members together to create this fun craft for your father.

You need:
• Picture frame, approx 28 x 21.5 cm (11 x 8-1/2 in)*
• Cardboard, to fit frame
• Green felt, to fit frame
• Red felt, approx 10 cm (4 in) square
• A photograph of each family member
• Playing cards
• Red spray paint, for frame
• Glue stick and hole punch

* If you have a large family, you may need a larger frame.

To make:
1. Remove backing and glass from frame. Spray paint frame. Let dry. Replace glass.

2. Glue green felt to cardboard.

3. Choose a face card for each family member. Measure patterned rectangle on front of 1 card. (Note: This rectangle is often bordered with lines. If so, measure lines.) With face at top, cut each photo to size of rectangle. Glue photos to card fronts. Arrange cards in open fan shape, showing everyone's face. Centre fan on felt; glue in place.

4. From red felt, cut out date, as shown. Centre under fan; glue in place. Using hole punch, cut red felt dots. Approx 1 cm (3/8 in) out from each end of date, vertically centre 1 dot; glue in place. Arrange dots at corners of collage as desired; glue in place. (Note: Ensure that dots clear frame edges.) Let dry.

5. Frame collage.
