Easy-to-make cupcake toppers

It doesn't take long to create these cute cupcake toppers -- they make fun place markers or party favours, too. Once the cutting and gluing is done, check out our delicious cupcake recipes and bake up some yummy bases.

Yellow daisy
With pencil, draw or trace 4 cm (1-1/2 inch) diameter circle on white craft foam and 7.5 cm (3-inch) diameter circle on yellow craft foam. Using pinking shears, cut out white circle; using scissors, cut out yellow circle. With pencil and ruler, divide yellow circle into 8 wedges; round corners of wedges to form petals. Cut around and between petals, almost but not all the way into centre. Draw two 4 cm (1-1/2 inch) long and two 5 cm (2-inch) long leaf shapes on green craft foam; cut out small shapes with pinking shears and large shapes with scissors.

Using thin layer of craft glue, adhere white circle to yellow petals; glue leaves together (see photo). Spread craft glue on top 5 cm (2 inches) of bamboo skewer; adhere skewer to backs of flower and leaves. Let dry.

Yellow ranunculus
With pencil, draw or trace one 2.5 cm (1 inch) diameter circle and two 5 cm (2 inch) diameter circles on yellow craft foam; draw or trace one 4.5 cm (1-3/4 inch) diameter circle on orange craft foam. Using pinking shears, cut out circles; set one large yellow circle aside.

Centre and stack circles together (see photo), adhering with thin layer of craft glue. Spread glue on wrong sides of large yellow circles, then adhere, sandwiching top 5 cm (2 inches) of bamboo skewer. Let dry.

Pink daisy
With pencil, draw or trace 1.5 cm (3/4 inch) diameter circle on yellow craft foam; 2.5 cm (1 inch) diameter circle on orange craft foam; and 8 cm (3 inch) diameter circle on pink craft foam. Using scissors, cut out yellow and pink circles; using pinking shears, cut out orange circle. With pencil and ruler, divide pink circle into 12 wedges; round corners of wedges to form petals. Cut around and between petals, almost but not all the way into centre.

Centre and stack foam circles together (see photo), adhering with thin layer of craft glue. Spread thin layer of craft glue on top 5 cm (2 inches) of bamboo skewer; adhere skewer to back of flower. Let dry.

Busy bee
With pencil, draw 5 cm (2 inch) long oval on yellow craft foam, tapering one end slightly, for body. Draw 3 cm (1-1/4 inch) high heart shape on white craft foam for wings. Draw three 5 mm (1/4 inch) wide arcs on black craft foam for stripes. Using scissors, cut out; trim inner curve of heart for wing shape.

With craft glue, adhere stripes to body; trim if necessary. Adhere wings to wrong side of body. With dab of glue, attach googly eyes (see photo). Spread glue on top 5 cm (2 inches) of bamboo skewer; adhere to back of bee. Let dry.
